ALL YOU GOT
Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
By the time I realize the present
It has already passed
You cannot catch
What moves so fast
So I plan my future
And regret my past
When stakes are high
You chose your spots
This is no lie
You give it all you got

hi tom...need your help

i'm gonna tell a little about myself
and if you can create a poem of it
i will try to turn it into a song

i've just wrote my last will and testament and
i want to express my love for my children
I have two little boys jacob and luke aged 3 and 2
and a baby daughter called ella, she will be aged 1 soon

i'm 39 years old

I also have a 19 year old daughter roxanne, from a previous relationship
I have lost contact with her and would like her to know that
i would have liked to have been around while she grew up and that
i miss her very much-this subject really hurts me when i think
about what a great relationship we could have had.

i want to express the best time a father and daughter could have had
if she hadn't have been unreachable all these years.

ive had experiences such as being in the army and times i've had to think

about what i wished would have happened-just before i put my life at risk

i've had experiences that made me grow up fast

my partner helen has been with me nearly ten years now-through thick
and thin
i love her so much but find it hard to tell her how much.
an accident whilst driving at work in 2005 gave me slight brain damage-i
lost my personality and identity and became withdrawn
i've lost my job in the civil service because i cannot work anymore-and i
don't take my young children out to parks and things like that
because my brain keeps ticking on never ending signals-it takes me a
long time to do anything from beginning to end-so i put things off. i'm
always in a state of confusion.

i have something wrong goin on inside my body aswell and am too afraid

to go doctors-so just incase anything happens to me
i would like all these important people to know how much i love them
from deep
within my heart

sorry to burden you with this request tom, but you write so well
i thought you might like the challenge and i'm just lookin for the best
writer to
write words to say that i care about them all-so that i can put a really
good
song together with your help.

i don't normally speak this frankly to anyone-it seems easier that you
don't
know me-and if i don't act now-i may never get it done.

i dont mind if a poem is just 4 lines long or 4 pages
i'll make sure your name is on as the writer-i'll just add chords and sing it

if you can't do it thats fine and if you try but can't do it thats fine. i feel
kind of selfish asking you this and am on the brink of deleting the
message-thats how low i feel.

i appreciate you reading this
and keep sending the stuff you send-i like jd and i really enjoy reading
and listening to the songs people compose from your words

goodnight tom

When she smiles I frown
I picked her up, can't put her down
Within six months I'm leaving town
If I wanna move on I've got to move around

It seems like all my life it's been like this
I always find myself reliving our last kiss
Been a long time since she was mine and now she's his
And yet I just keep on watching all of the things I miss

So I wrote her off and then she sent me a letter
I took some time off hoping my heart would feel better

4. Hello,
This is Paul's second letter to the Corinthians:
Now that I have your attention...I have some helpful words of advice for any future situations that may arise regarding your beauty and any unwanted potential suitors that may be charmed into a spell by it...
- If there is someone who has fallen in love with you (like me) then there are some things that you should avoid saying and/or doing around that person (like me). A lot of this involves some common sense that someone with blonde hair may or may not possess. For instance, if some one (like me) writes you a poem about their undying love for you and in that poem you are referred to as an angelic figure then there are roughly two responses that would be typical:

Response one - This response would be a friendly thankyou in which the subject of adoration (you) politely accepts the gift of words and meanings but makes it clearly known that there in no interest in persuading the desired aim (love) that the poet (me) expresses for his subject of adoration (you). If a blue mountain card is used then graphics should be plain and friendly and attempt to use images which contain very little imagery and symbolism that a gifted poet could easily pick up on.

Response two - This response would be one of gratitude, but more importantly, reciprication. This response would indicate a mutual feeling of love and some level of adoration. A response of this nature would evoke more poetry of the same nature and even stronger feelings by the poet (me) for the subject of adoration (you). If a blue mountain card was sent then the graphics would contain colorful and vivid images. In a response of this type then the images presented would be of a symbolic nature in which objects or images might include hearts, angels, or ROSES.

Your response - From the eyes of a poet, your response is looked at as a mixed signal. The words are perfectly in tune with response one where as the word "love" is not mentioned and there is no expression of mutual endearment on the basis of romance. However, when imagery is taken into consideration, the feelings of response one are questioned. A symbol of a rose goes hand in hand with love and romance. Therefore when a poet (me) receives a blue mountain card with one image from response two and a messege from response One then his mind twists and bends and his perplexion drips out of his brain through ear from his brain. When this happens then the poet's health becomes uncertain for this is a strange condition.

The poet believes that the blue mountain card comes only from the intentions that a response one would represents. But when a rose appears things get strange and wheels start spinning. Please refrain from blue mountain cards for awhile until you practice on some other people first. It may be a good idea to try something a little less demanding such as an email like this, for example. Typing is easy and if you're having some trouble with certain words than I suggest consulting a dictionary. Please take what I say as the truth and may it help you out in the future. Please respond via email or telephone or letter.

Thank You, Love Tom

Letter 1, North Shore Community College, English Department, dated December 16, 1999, from Karen Laing, Assoc. Professor: Dear Scholarship Committee/Interested Parties, It is my pleasure to submit this recommendation for Tom Jensen, SSN: 023-60-1688. He has been an eager, creative and receptive student. His life experience has created in him a hunger for knowledge and a discipline equal to the task. He has been an asset to peers during team exercises and a pleasure to have in class. Though I am a full-time Associate Professor of English at North Shore Community College, I had the opportunity to work with Tom in my part time capacity at Salem State this semester. His participation and enthusiasm in Introduction to Poetry (ENG 291) created an atmosphere that made teaching a true joy. Tom's investment in the assignments and love of poetry was evident at every turn and contributed significantly to the integrity with which his peers shouldered their own academic responsibilities and completed the work. His openness, both about his life and devotion to poetry, left little room for others to take themselves, or the subject at hand, less than seriously. It has been my pleasure to polish my teaching skills with a mind as agile and eager as Tom Jensen's. Should you need any further endorsement or information, please don't hesitate to call me at 781-477-2168. Sincerely, Karen Laing, Assoc. Professor, English Department, North Shore Community College, One Ferncroft Road, Danvers, MA 01923. Letter 2, Salem State College, School of Arts and Sciences, History, dated September 1999, from Hope Harmeling-Benne, History Professor: To Whom it May Concern: I am very pleased to write a recommendation for Tom Jensen who was a student of mine in History of World Civilization I, Spring 1999. Tom was one of the finest students I have taught in a long time. He earned A's on all of the tests and quizzes required, and his enthusiasm for learning, wide-ranging intellectual curiosity, and diligence in completing assignments are some of the reasons why he excelled. In addition, Tom is exceptionally competent in written and spoken English. His essays and reports were always carefully framed and well-executed. Besides being an outstanding student, Tom is especially likable and friendly. He has a great personality, is always polite and thoughtful, and was more than willing to assist fellow students when they needed help. Tom's exceptional creativity was obvious in the reports and projects he completed, whether it was including charts or maps or discussing a topic with great originality. It simply enhanced the entire classroom atmosphere to have such a creative and perceptive student present. Tom is someone I can highly recommend with complete confidence. He has an excellent academic background, outstanding academic potential, and would be an asset to any college which accepted him. Hope Harmeling-Benne, History Professor.

The Boston Globe
Dec. 12, 2002

Dear Mr. Jensen:

Thank you sending your articles on Manny Ramirez and on Common Sense. I'm afraid I can't see them working in the Globe news pages, which is my area of concentration. In news articles -- even feature articles -- we take more of a dispassionate, third-person approach than you have taken in the pieces you shared with me. I'm not sure what would be your most appropriate forum for these articles -- perhaps an opinion magazine.

This is not to say that you shouldn't try to sell future articles to different departments of the Globe. If you decide to do so, I would recommend that you study the articles in a particular section, come up with an interesting idea involving unique reporting that seems in sync with articles that already appear in that section. Then I'd suggest that before writing the piece you pitch the idea to the editor of that section (you can find the names of the editors on our Web site, "www.boston.com/globe" or in Editor & Publisher). Free-lance writers that I have worked with have succeeded by filling a need an editor might have and then establishing a working relationship with him or her. That is the best way to break into the business. Rarely are over-the-transom articles published.

Best of luck to you in your writing career.

Sincerely,
John Yemma

The words on this page
Dear Rachel,
Here it is, no more beating around the bush. I Love you very, very much. But not as much as you love me. Who do I blame? Your mom, for conditioning you to go so much without love that once you find some of it you hold on to it for dear life, hoping that it will give to you what she never could. I almost felt like a "mother" to you, trying to always do the best and trying not to be selfish like her. I now realize that wasn't my place nor should have I tried to take it, but I felt someone had to. I blame Kristin for stealing my heart and creating a situation where the chips were stacked against you from day one, a situation in which you could never compete, even though if placed in a fair and square deal you would have rose miles ahead of the competition. I blame myself for putting you in the whole situation, even though that is the only thing I regret about our time together. But I now believe that this maybe for the best, after all. You deserve someone who will give you a fair deal from day one, a situation which I could not provide. I prevent you, whether you know it or not, from having a shot at true inner peace and happiness. For from now on you will always feel uneasy and unsure even if we were to try to give it another go. That is why I am now writing the final chapter in this Romantic Drama. Unfortunately happy endings only happen in the movies. I love you very much and would like no greater treasure in the world than to remain a part, as big a part as you'll let me, in your life. You are, without a doubt, my best friend. To lose you as a friend would hurt me as much as losing me as a boyfriend will hurt you (if not greater-for it is worse to lose a whole than a part). I am deeply saddened by this whole chain of events and would do anything not to hurt you. Because of this fact I am afraid to hurt you anymore than I already have. Please contact me by any means necessary, but please don't leave my life, for I will never give up trying to be your best friend again. I miss you and love you and have to do what's best for you even if it means hurting you now, I'm sorry.

Love,
Tom

The Quick Version:

I've been writing poems meant to be used as song lyrics ever since I was 17 years old and heard Bob Dylan's LIKE A ROLLING STONE on the radio in my father's minivan. Shortly after that I got drunk, blacked out and totaled the minivan when I hit a telephone pole at a rather high rate of speed. I crawled away and was largely unhurt but the engine was now riding shotgun. A foot to my left and I'd have been dead. If my friend came with me then today he would have no legs. That's when I became a public servant and dedicated my life to trying to making a difference in this world. I've been doing that for the last 18 years or so... on my own dime... full-time... all while hiding behind a computer screen... and now it's time to show you what I have got... no more hiding - I'm looking to take it LIVE to THE PEOPLE, THE MUSICIANS AND THE SINGERS THEMSELVES.

I put out a book of 130 poems (with commentary) inviting musicians from all over the world to turn my words into songs. That was in 2008. I didn't have any songs at this point. I put videos of my poems on YouTube and found artists (or artists found them) and...

Today I have had 130 songs made from my lyrics. That's about seven hours' worth of original music, right there. The enclosed CD has 22 of them - a nice assorted sampler. My website is filled with goodies...

My current book of poems waiting for music now has over 400 poems in it. At least 20 albums worth of songs are just waiting for musicians and singers. I want to start by creating or taking over a bar or venue and naming it SONGWRITERS' or joining a current establishment where I can use this place as a central location to create new songs by day (with audience participation and feedback, of course) in person and have musicians play the songs at night. There are a million possibilities and ways to go and potential offshoots of this idea but that's the main idea. It can start as tiny as a hole in the wall bar and restaurant idea or as big as a multimilion dollar investment opportunity... it can start with local musicians or big names in the industry...

Think of it like this - We all have our favorite filmmakers, right? But who has a favorite songwriter who acts as the voice behind the songs but NOT as the singer or musician themselves? In essence, I create a "song script" and then find the proper actors or actresses (in this case singers or musicians) to fill the part. That allows me, as a writer, to write without limits and if there is a story that needs to be heard then I can tell it and worry about whom re-tells it later... TOTAL FREEDOM.

This is just the very tip of the iceberg of ideas that I have but this one is the one that is easiest to start as I begin getting myself ready to sell the only thing that I have - and that's me! But luckily, that's a lot...

Enjoy and thank you for your time. My website is brianrainstorm.com

Tom's guide to not hating having to write a research paper
1. Spend some time thinking about your topic...
2. Make sure your topic is interesting not only to you but your reader...
3. Remember that the better the thesis - the better the paper and more
importantly the EASIER the paper is to write...
4. You want your thesis to be general enough where you can find plenty of
information on the subject but specific enough where you can narrow down
your focus to fit the required assignment and length...
5. Make an expected outline of what you think you want your paper to include
(but remember that you could change focus completely if your sources show
first (you may find that there isn't enough information half way into your
paper and that's easier or fits better)...
6. Before you start writing the paper itself make sure you get all your sources
7. Make sure you have plenty of sources and even extra ones...
8. Quickly read all your sources and circle what you think you should/could
use in your paper...
9. If you're not sure one way or the other then circle it...
10. Once you circle all the parts of the sources you think you could use then label
them according to where they came from (I use a numbering system that
includes the source and the page) and cut them out...
11. Once they're all cut out then spread them all out on your floor and attempt to
label them starting under very general terms...
12. About half way through you should see your paper start to form and see if
everything is heading in the right direction...
13. This step will be the easiest way to gauge whether your topic and thesis is too
broad, too narrow or just right...
14. If you have too much information in one certain area then you could think
about focusing your thesis more towards that direction...
15. If you don't have enough information in a certain area then you may think of
deleting that section of your paper or refocusing your thesis...
16. Pay attention to the demands of the paper according to the mandatory
number of references, quotes, etc. and make sure you've covered the
guidelines of the teacher...
17. Go back to step number 5 (your expected outline) and compare what you
thought to what is...
18. If you like the original thesis/outline the best then get some more sources and
repeat the process above...
19. If you like the new outline then keep it and change your thesis accordingly...
If your original thesis/outline is the same as the new one you did after you
sorted and gathered all your circled sources then you are The Perfect
Research Paper Writer - Congratulations!!!

Disease of Alcoholism

During my last rehab stint I was told that 20% of the beer drinkers buy 80% of the beer. If you were to compare beer with money in a typical class of twenty students then the numbers will scare you. The statistics are based on the average salary being $50 thousand dollars a year. That means that four of the students would make 200 grand a year and the remaining sixteen would make less than 13 thousand a year.

4 - $200 K
16- $13 K

Now that is a ridiculous figure. Wars have been fought over such inequalities.

With this in mind, what is being done to fight alcoholism? Actually, what can be done to fight alcoholism? One can never escape it. Almost every street corner offers at least one place that serves liquid escape. Bars, Restaurants, Liquor stores, Convenience stores, friend's houses, NyQuil in bathroom vanities, Rum Cake, baseball games, New Years, Christmas, Friday nights, Saturday nights, the list goes on for miles. Unlike many other diseases, alcoholism is not only a physical dependency but a mental one as well. Drink too much and your body becomes dependent. Stop drinking after a long period of abuse and your body will shake. The more you drink the more you need and the more your body learns to hold alcohol. The more you drink the more damage you do to your body.

Alcohol has two societal reasons why it is so powerful. It is both socially acceptable and also cheap. While many drugs are expensive and illegal, you can get a legal buzz for about four dollars. Want to get drunk? How about six bucks for a twelve pack of cheap beer. They make some really cheap Vodka as well. In today's world we are all taught to always put your good face on. We learn to hold back our true selves in an effort to appeal more to people around us. We always desire to be ourselves and to lose our inhibitions. Many people are deadly quiet and shy when sober. Always being afraid to say the wrong thing and scare people away. Alcohol takes away the shyness and allows us to feel free for a time. Many people who suffer from alcoholism wish to prolong that time. Friday nights of going out and reducing stress turn into Wednesday nights of drinking alone after a stressful day of work. The cycle can become so prevalent that one may need to drink in the morning just to start their day.

Treatment is becoming increasing less taboo as more and more high profile people are going into rehabilitation for their disease. Alcoholic's

Anonymous can be found all around the world and there are chapters open in almost every city and town. New pills are becoming available in the medical field which make alcoholics very sick when they drink. Many families attempt to help family members suffering from this disease and there are programs and groups available to those in need. In the end, though, the ultimate guide to recovery lies within one's own will power and desire to be healed.

The words on this page
Dear Kristin,
It is the tendency for a painter to paint with vivid colors. Just as it is natural for the accountant to deal with numbers. And poets, you might ask?...well they deal with imagery and symbolism. On the topic of imagery, well that is me and that is my life. I see life as a series of images and meanings represented through this imagery. It is my nature to see a certain side of someone or something and attempt to capture that emotion or feeling. I am realizing that you have represented beauty in my life. You were a symbol of purity and kindness. You provided me with a beacon of hope to which I could look to for support through the many dark tunnels that I have found myself lurking in. You have a set role in my life, a role from which you could never deviate from. You are support and a helping hand. In times of trouble and uneasiness you are there to comfort me. It is natural for me to make you into something that you are not or see you only as an ideal or an idol but reality must over take my poetic nature at sometime or another. This is a good time.
I used you to help myself and I realize that there is only a certain level that you can take me to. The rest I must go myself. Well you have taken me far and have led me to the gates of heaven. Now I must find my own way to sneak in. Perhaps when God is sleeping I can hop the fence?
I still have a little trouble with religious imagery. I am my own god and I do not follow his plan I make my own. If my actions are right and correct then I shall make myself a good life, if I screw up then I have no one to blame but myself. i live a life of no excuses anymore. I will not allow myself to wait forever for a plan that may or may not be guided by a hand above. I look for god in people and then follow them to a heaven on earth. It seems to be the safest bet for a doubting Thomas like me. As the Christians say I must not be charmed by false idols or worship false Gods. You used to be my link to God. Somewhere along the way you turned into God himself...And I think that would get us both in trouble in the eyes of the big guy. I have separated you two. With every word typed I see a clearer picture of the difference between you two. It has finally sunk in.
